How F♯m works
F♯ minor is black–white–black, the relative minor of A major, and one of the busiest chords in guitar-based songwriting. Learn it as a shape rather than re-reading three accidentals every time it appears.
F♯m inversions
An inversion keeps the same notes and changes which one is at the bottom. That matters because it lets you move between chords without jumping: the closer the notes of the next chord are to the ones your hand is already holding, the smoother it sounds and the easier it is to play. Root position first, then two inversions.

Common mistakes on F♯m
- Playing A♯ instead of A natural — the minor third of this chord is a white key.
- Spelling it G♭ minor, which needs a double flat and is almost never written.
- Twisting the wrist to reach both black keys instead of moving the hand forward as a unit.
